Autumn in the cypress swamps of the Atchafalaya Basin in Texas and Louisiana brings out the most warm colors and soft textures of the leaves of the cypress trees and the Spanish moss. In the quiet of the bayous on a misty morning the reflections in the water of the swamps give a painterly feel to the scenery. All photographs were shot handheld from a floating canoe, which requires a bit of navigational and floating skills. And a lot of patience to proceed slowly, slowly as to avoid the emergence of disturbing ripples on the water surface.
Atchafalaya Autumn as a series was awarded Silver in the Nature Category in the Px3 Prix de la Photographie de Paris aka Paris Photo Awards 2020.
The series also received an Honorable Mention in the 14th Annual Pollux Awards in 2019, Category Landscape.
